Michael founded Designer Group in 1992 after an extensive career with the ESB. His vision is instrumental in the development and advancement of Designer Group to its current position as one of Ireland’s leading Engineering Contractors. The Group is also a well respected name within the Engineering sector in the UK. Michael is the former Head of the Construction Industry Federation (CIF).
Nick Joined Designer Group in 2010 and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience of the construction industry with him. He holds a Masters Degree in Building Services Engineering. Nick is responsible for financial decision making, client relations, design management, subcontractor tender packages, subcontractor co-ordination, installation quality, risk management and local authority sign off.
Niall holds Degrees in Electrical Engineering, Information Technology and an MSc in Information Systems. He leads the Design & Engineering Division of the Group and is instrumental in the ongoing modernisation of information and communication systems. Niall champions a collaborative approach to Building Information Modelling (BIM) Technologies throughout the Group.
Lou has over 40 years' experience in the power generation and industrial businesses, in which he has overseen the project development of numerous gas-fired and “green energy” projects from EPC through start-up and commissioning. Lou's expertise includes managing overall profit and loss, corporate start-up and management, turnkey contract execution, and under-budget, on-schedule project completion of numerous power generation projects. He holds a BSME from Clarkson University and attended graduate school at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
Kerry joined the team in early 2015 holding 10 years HR experience and CIPD certification. Her responsibilities include overseeing and managing all aspects of HR practices and processes in the UK office, supporting the business needs ensuring proper implementation of the Company strategy and objectives, whilst remaining aligned with the HR agenda and ensuring the business is seen as an employer of choice within the industry.
With over 20 years of experience in the construction industry, Sean joined Designer Group in 2011. Previously, Sean was a Director of a leading construction firm for 9 years. He holds BSc in Quantity Surveying and a Diploma in Construction Economics. Sean has a great deal of expertise in both public and private projects including Public Private Partnerships (PPP) and design & build developments. He has responsibility for all commercial matters within the company.
Ben joined Designer Group in 2013 with over 28 years experience in the construction industry. Ben offers the business his experience from a wide range of sectors including Utility, Building, Rail and Civil Engineering projects. He has fulfilled both commercial and operational roles throughout his career, with an exceptional track record of success. Ben holds full responsibility for managing the UK commercial teams and all related commercial matters, priding himself in maintaining good client relationships. He is an experienced leader and decision maker who relishes a challenge.
Gary began his career with 10 years’ experience as a Project Manager working alongside Tier 1 main contractors, before joining Designer Group in 2011. He has experience delivering everything from minor process projects in live plants, to assembling multi-discipline teams to deliver large-scale complex turnkey projects. Gary has been at the forefront of our development of Prefabricated Solutions and has delivered projects across the globe using this approach. As the Irish Industrial Director, his responsibility is to foster the growth of our Industrial division into both new sectors and emerging markets.
Jonathan joined Designer Group in February 2016 as a Financial Director, he is an experienced accountant with strong management skills. Jonathan’s responsibilities at Designer Group include reviewing all UK financial processes/policies, working closely with the Commercial and Operational teams to develop and manage ongoing project review analysis and providing financial control and support to the procurement function Identifying opportunities to strengthen financial systems and controls.
Andrew joined the business in 2015 as Project Director moving up to Operations Director in 2016. Andrew is a highly motivated person, who enjoys challenges. He has a solid foundation in mechanical services which has been complemented over the last 20 years with a high level of financial and contractual awareness. He has a keen interest in innovative installations methods which reduce risks whilst ensuring a high quality installations.
Mike's duties as Pre-construction Director involve overseeing and managing the estimating department and new business development. Mike is involved with the reviewing of cost plans, undertaking value engineering, cost saving, reviewing of tender information to ascertain suitability, tender risk analysis, pre and post tender liaison meetings with clients including clarification and negotiation meetings.
David joined the Designer Group team as Operations Director in 2019. Having managed large scale projects and operations for the past 10 years internationally, David brings additional experience to our management team and has been key in driving new processes in the business. He has extensive experience in delivering fast-track and complex projects across multiple sectors and disciplines, alognside Tier 1 contractors through collaborative planning. As Operations Director with over 20 years' experience, David is responsible for the successful delivery of projects whilst also managing and developing our client relations.
Shane joined Designer Group in 2014 as Electrical Quality and Commissioning Manager and is now in the position of Group QEHS Director. With over 16 years’ experience, Shane has successfully delivered a diverse range of major projects for the pharmaceutical, commercial, residential and data center sectors. He leads the Group QEHS Department; working closely with project stakeholders and specialist subcontractors to drive the development of new processes and lean activities, liaising with multiple departments to ensure compliance to ISO 9001, 45001 and 14001 standards. Shane is a member of Engineers Ireland and a Chartered Quality Professional in the Chartered Quality Institute.
Shona joined Designer Group in 2019 with over 25 years’ experience in HR Management within the clinical healthcare, social care and pharma/medical devices sectors. A Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development, Shona holds a BA in Communication Studies and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management. Shona’s responsibilities are to devise HR strategies which support the achievement of business plans in the Irish business, alongside managing the employee lifecycle; developing the talent, diversity and engagement agenda for DG.
Brendan oversees our off-site prefabrication activities and takes a leading role in the training and development of our apprentices. He joined the company in 1996 and has witnessed substantial changes in how construction projects are delivered. Brendan works with our BIM Team to ensure that the latest advances in technology are reflected in our Lean workflows.
Paul joined Designer Group in September 2016 as Financial Controller for the FM Business. He previously worked for various companies in the FM industry, such as Veolia and Noonan before his career with DG and was promoted to the Irish FD in October 2019. Paul has an Honours Degree in Business Studies (BSc from University of Limerick) and is a fully qualified member of the ACCA.
Dympna joined Designer Group in 2018 with over 15 years’ experience in the construction industry. Her responsibilities include vetting contract and related documents at bid and contract award stages, in addition to negotiation of contract terms upstream and downstream for our Irish, African and US projects. Dympna holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Construction Law and Contract Administration and provides contractual advice and training to our Project teams, whilst supporting the business with legal and insurance matters pertaining to our contracts.
Philip began working with Designer Group in January 2019 as Group Procurement Manager. He has over 20 years' experience in the construction industry and has an excellent record in delivering procurement solutions across a range of sectors and high-profile projects within Healthcare, Manufacturing and Data Centres both in Europe and the Middle East. As part of his role, Philip has overall responsibility for the procurement function for Designer Group Ireland. He is committed to developing an organisational culture, concentrated on core value procurement principles and added-value initiatives across the Group.
Emily joined Designer Group in 2019 and is an accomplished, CIPD-accredited HR professional with 5 years’ experience. She is responsible for the development and implementation performance and talent management, recruitment and selection, internal communication, reward and recognition and training and development within the business. Emily works closely with all stakeholders to ensure that the HR strategy is aligned with contract objectives, in order to develop and retain key staff whilst delivering excellence
Joe is a licensed Professional Engineer with over 12 years’ experience in the engineering and management of Power and Industrial construction projects. Over the course of his career, Joe has worked on numerous gas-fired and biomass power plants, many of which have required equipment relocation, grey market equipment, and/or retrofits. Joe’s expertise includes project management, financial analysis, business development, and feasibility studies. Prior to joining Designer Group in 2018, Joe gained a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and an MBA from the University of Kansas.
Tiffany is responsible for driving forward the successful implementation of our long-term marketing and communications strategy, and supporting the continuous growth of the Group. Working closely with the Group Board Directors, Tiffany ensures our message and brand identity is consistent, helping us to stand out and achieve impact within our industry. With a wide range of experience of both strategic and tactical marketing practises throughout all areas of the built environment, Tiffany has a keen eye for detail, exceptional communication skills and a hands-on approach to building brand recognition.
A Chartered Engineer and Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Ireland with over forty years practical experience in civil engineering and building construction – thirty eight with the SIAC Group. Retired in March 2009 as Managing Director of SIAC Construction Ltd. Successfully directed the Groups civil engineering business since 1979 serving as a director for 23 years during which time SIAC grew into one of Ireland’s largest, most diverse and successful construction groups.
Chase joined Designer Group USA in 2017 as the Project Manager for engineering projects. He has a vast range of construction management experience on large EPC and design-build project across the United States, and has spent 5 years as a mechanical, instrumentation and controls engineer on biomass and simple cycle power plants. In addition, Chase has performed various project controls functions such as scheduling, contract administration and control budget. His position as Project Manager is to ensure successful project execution and maintain positive client relations.
Dustin joined Designer Group USA in 2015 as the Manager of Electrical Engineering. Dustin has 20 years’ experience in the power industry and has worked on every aspect of an electrical design project from estimating through start-up. He has gained a monumental amount of experience in power system studies, equipment sizing calculations, along with the preparation of specifications, bid evaluations and the administration of contracts. His role at Designer Group is to set the electrical design standards, and provide guidance for the electrical department.
